The construction work schedule is a document that establishes the sequence, relationship between the time and timing of assignments. It is developed according to the rules and regulations at the stage of drawings by the POS design organization. It is then supplemented by a production plan drawn up by the contractor.

The planning objectives are:

  • justification of the duration of construction;
  • determination of the timing of putting the complex elements into operation;

The first part contains information like this:

  • List and scope of work.
  • Labor intensity, time expenditures, calculated according to standards.
  • Equipment efficiency in 2 shifts. Interruptions, downtime, change of location should be minimized.
  • Duration of mechanized and manual work.
  • Limit number of persons employed in production.
  • Number of shifts: equipment is involved in two shifts, and personnel in one.

To determine the time of implementation of activities aimed at achieving the goals of the project, and to establish relationships between them in terms of time, taking into account the most risky events, a project schedule is drawn up. Scheduling is the creation and subsequent refinement of the schedule, which takes into account the scope of work, risks, limitations. Since the schedule in the form of a list of exclusively planned parameters of work without comparison with the actual deadlines loses its meaning, often, instead of the schedule, the name of the schedule is used.

Planning the scope of work involves the appointment of responsible executors for tasks and deadlines. Tasks as a static category with their sequence are transferred to the dynamic category of work status, which lead to the result of the project. These tasks, given in the work format, are summarized in a graph and / or table. Tasks express the essence of the results according to the criterion of implementation ("solved / not solved"). Accordingly, the start time for tasks is not as significant as the end date.

A timetable is drawn up, usually by the project manager, who involves experts in various fields for this purpose. Experts should help organize a complete list of works in a hierarchical manner. Then the duration of the work and their interdependence are determined. Some jobs can be done simultaneously (in parallel), and some can only be done in series. For clarity, these relationships are presented in the form of Gantt charts, in which a hierarchical list of tasks is located along one axis (vertically), and a calendar scale on the other axis. The scheduling should result in a calendar-oriented, hierarchically structured plan that includes a complete list of activities.

The resource model of the project is also part of the scheduling. The need for performers for a particular stage of work and the degree of uniqueness of their qualifications, the availability of raw materials and consumables, mechanisms and equipment are taken into account. The resource base is assessed by the characteristics of time (calendar or daily employment), the cost of using resources, the maximum availability of the resource in percent.

Scheduling options

In its simplest form, the parameters of the schedule are the start and end dates of each job, the duration, and the resources required for these jobs. Complex schedules have several options for starting and ending work, their duration and time reserves. The methodology for calculating network models makes it possible to calculate only early and late dates. The original (base) planned dates and current dates must be selected taking into account other factors. There are three main choices:

In the planning process, consider: 1) what impact each assignment has on income and expenses, in particular on monthly cash flows and profits; 2) in what time, in the opinion of employees, the task will be completed.

PLEASE NOTE. An action plan that is both significant and costly can be implemented incrementally as the budget permits, or sometimes deferred indefinitely. Let go of over-ambition by setting target dates. This requires the team leader to explain to the employees how long it will take to complete the assignment, justifying the correct target date. Remember, in most cases, employees already have a work schedule and are very busy. If the staff does not have time to solve the tasks assigned to them, your plans become unrealistic and meaningless.
